Most dental problems are silent until they aren't. The point of prevention is to find them while they're still silent.

A twice-yearly hygiene visit is not just a cleaning. It is an oral cancer screen, a periodontal-pocket measurement, a check on every existing restoration, and a digital x-ray review of areas the eye cannot see. Done consistently, it catches every meaningful problem before it becomes pain or expense.

Dr. Chovatiya's hygiene appointments include intraoral photography for every patient on every visit — so changes between visits are objective, visible, and discussable. Fluoride varnish, sealants on developing molars, and personalized hygiene coaching are part of the same visit when indicated.

Every six months — step by step.

  1. 01

    Cleaning + scaling

Tartar removed by ultrasonic and hand instruments. Polishing follows.

  2. 02

    Full periodontal exam

Six-point pocket depths around every tooth. The earliest sign of gum disease is a one-millimeter increase you cannot feel.

  3. 03

    Oral cancer screen

Visual + tactile exam of tongue, floor of mouth, palate, lymph nodes. Five-minute step that catches the only thing that can kill you in dentistry.

  4. 04

    Digital photographs

Intraoral camera images of every tooth. Compared visit-to-visit. Wear, fracture, color change all visible objectively.

Common questions.

How often should I come in?

Standard: twice a year. Periodontal-disease patients: every three to four months. We adjust based on your risk profile.

Are dental x-rays safe?

Modern digital x-rays expose you to less radiation than a long-haul flight. We take only what's necessary, on a recall schedule based on caries risk.

My gums bleed when I floss — is that normal?

No. Healthy gums don't bleed. Bleeding is the first sign of gingivitis. Reversible at this stage; left alone, becomes periodontitis.

Do adults need fluoride and sealants?

Adults with high caries risk (dry mouth, frequent sugar exposure, deep grooves) benefit from both. We recommend per case.

What is oral cancer screening?

A two-minute visual and tactile exam of your tongue, throat, palate, and neck for early signs of malignancy. Five-year survival is over 80% when caught early; below 30% when caught late.
