01

A dental emergency is anything you cannot wait for. You should not have to.

Severe pain, a knocked-out tooth, a fractured front tooth, swelling that has reached your face — all are emergencies. The hours after matter. Knocked-out adult teeth can be re-implanted within 60 minutes if handled correctly. Pulp infections that are draining will get worse without antibiotics and a root canal.

Dr. Chovatiya's practice reserves same-day slots for emergencies. Call as early as possible. Most emergencies are stabilized in a single visit; definitive treatment (crown, root canal, implant) is scheduled afterwards once the immediate pain is resolved.

What to do first — step by step.

  1. 01

    Knocked-out adult tooth

Hold by the crown (not the root). Rinse gently in milk or saline. Re-insert if possible. Call within 30 minutes.

  2. 02

    Severe pain

Ibuprofen 600 mg + acetaminophen 500 mg together (if not contraindicated). Call. Avoid aspirin on the gum — it causes burns.

  3. 03

    Fractured front tooth

Save the fragment in milk if you have it. Composite or veneer can often re-bond it the same day.

  4. 04

    Facial swelling

Treat as urgent — call immediately. Spreading dental infection can become serious within hours.

Common questions.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe pain that woke you up. Bleeding that won't stop. A knocked-out tooth. A broken front tooth. Facial swelling. Lost crown on a sensitive tooth.

What if it's after hours?

Leave a message — emergency calls are returned. For severe facial swelling or trauma after hours, urgent care or ER is the right immediate step.

Will I get definitive treatment in one visit?

Sometimes. Most emergencies are stabilized first (pain control, antibiotic, temporary repair) and definitive treatment scheduled in the same week.

Do you treat children's emergencies?

Yes — chipped baby teeth, knocked-out front teeth, pediatric trauma. Same-day where possible.

Will my insurance cover it?

Most dental plans cover emergency exams, palliative care, and definitive treatment with the usual co-payments. We verify before the visit.
